Scholarship Programme

Who can apply for a Governors’ Scholarship?

Students from St John Bosco College and other schools can apply for a scholarship supported by the Governors or members of the SJBC Foundation. Students making good progress at SJBC will be invited to join the programme at an early stage.

Being an SJBC Scholar

Scholars will be expected to be:

Outstanding ambassadors for the Sixth Form.

Provide mentoring and leadership to younger students in the school as part of their community engagement

Take part in specific Scholarship Events such as the annual Scholars Reception as well as speak at the annual Awards Evening.

Benefits of the Programme

Trips and Events may include:

Visits to Oxford and Cambridge Universities, including our partner colleges

Conferences focusing on applications to top universities

Black and Minority Ethnic conferences on applying to university

Speaker events at the school

Parents’ events

Prestigious addition to a UCAS application

THE GOVERNORS’ AWARD

Scholars will be awarded a bursary of £400 which will be paid at the end of their first term (mid-December). This award requires a minimum 7 or more grades 8 or 9, including English and Mathematics at GCSE.

THE FOUNDATION AWARD

Scholars will be awarded a bursary of £300 which will be paid in December of Year 12. This award requires a minimum point score of 50 points (equivalent to 5 or more A/A* grades / 9 or 8 grades (English and Maths) at GCSE.

ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility for the Scholarship Programme depends upon students’ GCSE grades and is open to both internal, and external applicants.

Bursary Information

The Sixth Form Bursary Fund is a discretionary fund that allows the school to support financially those Sixth Form students who might otherwise find it difficult to cover certain costs associated with their time in the Sixth Form.

There are three different levels of funding available, each based on the student’s level of need. Bursary payments are based on a student’s total parental household income.

Bursaries also consider whether a student was eligible for Pupil Premium (free school meals) in years 7-11, and whether students’ parents are in receipt of any benefit payments.

Payments are made 3 times are year, both in year 12 and year 13 and a new application form must be completed each time. Payments are to be used to help cover the costs associated with post-16 study, such as textbooks, educational trips, specialist equipment, travel to school, etc.
