Careers at St John Bosco College

At St John Bosco College, we want every student to leave us with the skills, knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about their future.

From Year 7 through to Sixth Form, students have access to a wide range of careers opportunities including employer talks, workplace experiences, university visits, apprenticeship information, careers fairs and personalised guidance. These experiences help students understand the pathways available to them and develop the skills needed for future success.

How Do We Measure Success?

We use Compass+, a national careers tracking system, to monitor and evaluate our careers programme.

Compass+ helps us to:

  • Track the careers opportunities students receive.
  • Monitor participation and engagement.
  • Review the impact of careers activities.
  • Identify areas for further development.
  • Measure our progress against the Gatsby Benchmarks.

We review this information each term to ensure our careers programme continues to meet the needs of our students and prepares them for their next steps.

What Are the Gatsby Benchmarks?

The Gatsby Benchmarks are the national framework for high-quality careers education. They help schools ensure that students receive meaningful career experiences and are well-prepared for life after school.

At SJBC, the Gatsby Benchmarks are embedded through:

  • Careers education within the curriculum.
  • Employer encounters and industry workshops.
  • Work experience opportunities.
  • University and apprenticeship events.
  • Independent careers guidance.
  • Personal Development and tutor programmes.

Our goal is simple: to ensure every student understands the opportunities available to them and is fully prepared for their future.
