Careers Education

Careers Education at St John Bosco College

We want every student to feel confident about their future. Our careers programme helps students understand their strengths, discover opportunities and make informed decisions about their next steps.

Careers education is built into everyday school life. Students experience it through lessons, tutor time, careers guidance interviews, employer and alumni visits, and enrichment activities across the year.

What students experience

Students will:

  • learn about different careers and pathways
  • learn about higher education, apprenticeships, further education and technical qualifications (including T Levels)
  • meet employers, professionals and former students
  • receive guidance on subject choices and next steps
  • develop interview and workplace skills
  • receive support with applications

Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9)

Students begin to explore careers and understand how school subjects link to real jobs. They also receive support when choosing GCSE options.

Key Stage 4 (Years 10–11)

Students prepare for post-16 options through careers events, employer talks and individual guidance, helping them decide between Sixth Form, college or apprenticeships.

Sixth Form

Students receive personalised support including careers interviews, UCAS and apprenticeship applications, CV writing, mock interviews and employer encounters and gain inspiration from Bosco Discovery Talks.

Employer and Alumni Encounters

Students meet employers and former SJBC students who share their education and career journeys. These experiences help students understand real career pathways and raise aspirations.

Preparation for Adult Life

Students develop important life skills such as communication, teamwork and professional behaviour. They are also taught how to use online information including Artificial Intelligence responsibly when researching careers and completing applications.

Individual Guidance

Students and parents can request an appointment with the Careers Advisor for impartial advice and guidance.

Our careers programme follows national guidance and the Gatsby Benchmarks and is reviewed regularly to ensure students receive accurate, impartial and up-to-date advice.
