Young Leaders

‘Believe and Achieve’

Looking at our SJBC young leaders, their stories and their personal achievements beyond the classroom.

Shannen Year 9

Shannen is a remarkable young person with caring responsibilities at home and a heart for the community in her school and beyond. She is a willing helper around school, including showing new pupils around the building and grounds. Shannen does not neglect her studies and applies herself with diligence and commitment, showing maturity beyond her years and achieving excellent grades.

During school holidays, Shannen volunteers for the British Heart Foundation and is a valued helper in their charity shop, assisting with arranging displays and cleaning to make the outlet as welcoming to the public as possible. Shannen is a volunteer gardener and acts as a Youth Leader for other young people who help out with gardening projects.  She also commits time to the gardening scheme in Battersea Park, called Thrive Sunday.

Other community involvement includes the Guides, for which Shannen hopes to become a Young Leader next year, as well as singing in a community choir. Shannen also helps tidy up her local community hall – not a job that many much older people would think of doing, as it is largely unseen and often unsung.

Shannen takes responsibility within her own family, baby-sitting for nephews and nieces. Shannen is a giver and has a true heart for others. She is prepared to work behind the scenes when no-one is looking and yet also shows real leadership qualities when called for. Shannen is a shining beacon amongst her peers.
