Saint John Bosco College Uniform and Sixth Form Dress Code

The School Uniform for St John Bosco College is an essential part of our school life and identity and should be worn with pride. All items must be worn fully and correctly and shirts must be tucked in and ties done up fully at all times:

  • Royal blue blazer with embroidered school logo
  • Boys - White (Years 7, 8 and 9) / Blue (Years 10 and 11) buttoned to the neck, not fitted or with darts (long or short sleeved but not ¾ length sleeves)
  • Girls – White (Years 7, 8 and 9) / Blue (Years 10 and 11) rever open neck blouses, buttoned to the neck, not fitted or with darts (long or short sleeved but not ¾ length sleeves)
  • Grey bespoke trimmed school pullover (optional)
  • Boys mid grey trousers
  • Girls mid grey, drop wait, pleated knee length skirt
  • Black, smart, flat, sensible shoes capable of being polished (not trainers or pumps, high heels, suede-style or boots)
  • Black, navy blue or dark grey socks or tights (no sports socks or inner shoe ‘sockettes’-also no tights and socks together)
  • Striped school tie. (Junior tie years 7-9, Senior tie years 10 and 11). (Boys only)
  • Water-proof, warm winter coat (black or dark blue)
  • Black or navy blue gloves, hat and scarf
  • Practical rucksack or school bag large enough to carry bulky items (no ladies' handbags, drawstring bags, shopping bags or very small or otherwise impractical or unsuitable bags)
PE Kit
  • Navy bespoke polo shirt with embroidered school logo
  • Navy bespoke shorts with embroidered school logo (boys and girls)
  • Navy bespoke skort with embroidered school logo (optional for girls in place of shorts)
  • Plain navy trackpants (optional)
  • White socks
  • Long banded Navy and Sky blue bespoke football socks
  • White trainers
  • Black or Navy school PE drawstring kit bag OR School bespoke logoed Holdall with individual unique number
  • Shinguards (with ankle support)
  • Mouthguard
  • Navy thermal skins (optional)

Long hair should be tied back, with a plain black or dark blue band or clip. No extremes of colour or style are permitted. No earrings or other jewellery whatsoever (even if 'covered up') should be worn apart from a discreet religious symbol such as a crucifix, if preferred. No nail varnish or make up should be worn whatsoever.

Ordering School Uniform

The uniform supplier is Valentino Ltd of Knaphill, Surrey. Further information and details of how to order can be found on their website.  You will be asked to register when you first log in to their site, you can then follow the links to St John Bosco College. Valentino run a uniform drop-in at SJBC on a Thursday from 10.30am-2.00pm, parents are welcome to come in to school during that time to purchase uniform.  Please report to visitors' reception when you arrive.

Sixth Form

Sixth Form students, as young adults and role models within the school, are required to attend in business dress. This means for boys a business-style shirt with collar and Sixth Form tie, black or brown shoes (not trainers, pumps, sandals or flip flops) full-length trousers (not jeans or cargo-style) . No earrings, hats, jewellery or ear (or other) studs, metal or otherwise. For girls business dress means full length tailored trousers or knee length skirt, a tailored shirt or blouse (not cropped or sleeveless), shoes (not trainers, pumps, sandals, flip flops). Students who arrive improperly dressed will not be allowed to enter the premises until their dress is correct.

Guidelines on Equipment

It is imperative that all students come to school fully prepared with all the equipment that they need to learn. Please ensure your son or daughter has the following, each day:
A sturdy, waterproof school bag (see note above on bags), pencil case, pencils (HB and colouring), pens (at least 3- either black or blue), ruler, eraser, geometry kit (available at W H Smiths), calculator.

Mobile phones/MP3/personal luxury items or items of sentimental value  should not be brought to school. The school takes no responsibility for such items and staff will not be asked to investigate their disappearance. In the event of a student choosing to bring such an item to school it must be be kept in in students' bags for use on their way to and from school only. Having a phone/electronic equipment visible in a lesson or around the school will result in the confiscation of the item for 7 days. The item will be placed in a sealed, named, dated envelope and locked in the school safe and must be collected by the student after 7 days. Parents wishing to collect the phone on their child's behalf should telephone the school to arrange a convenient time to to collect it.

All students are issued with a school diary upon arrival at St John Bosco College. The first diary is free of charge and is the student’s responsibility. Any lost diaries are replaced at a cost of £3.00.
