All students receive seven periods of Science teaching fortnightly. The course is designed to enable students work as young scientists, questioning established theories and gathering ideas about the world around them. The lessons cover the key topics within science and plenty of experimental work where possible. Pupils plan and evaluate a range of different investigations in each topic allowing them to develop their investigative skills throughout the 2 year key stage 3 course.
Students study the AQA Science syllabus. The course builds on the concepts introduced during Key Stage 3, developing and inspiring future scientists whilst providing a good scientific grounding for future study.
Students can select a preference for the study of science in Years 9-11, either GCSE Science and Additional Science or GCSE Separate Sciences (GCSE Biology, GCSE Chemistry, GCSE Physics). Students will receive 5 hours of science teaching time weekly and the separate sciences receive 5 additional hours fortnightly.
We currently complete the Edexcel course in Biology and Chemistry and AQA in Physics at KS5. The courses are designed to help students to develop a good knowledge and understanding of biology/ chemistry/ physics together with their applications in everyday life. The courses allow the students to develop key skills in communication, problem solving and working with others. Each subject is taught exclusively by a specialist teacher.
