History is currently one of the most popular subjects within the school. Along with acquiring a broad range of historical knowledge and understanding, studying History develops many transferable skills. These include, evaluating a wide-range of material from contemporary sources to more recent historians; engaging directly with questions and presenting independent opinions about them in well-written answers; and developing confidence in undertaking your own historical enquiry.
Key Stage 3
All students receive three hours of teaching per fortnight. The course is designed to give students a broad overview of the development of History over the last 1000 years, focusing on key elements of British and World History.
Key Stage 4
At KS4 we study the Edexcel History GCSE course. This GCSE is divided into four topics: Medicine through Time, The Cold War, Early Elizabethan England and Weimar to Nazi Germany. At the end of Year 11, students will sit three examination papers.
Key Stage 5
We currently complete the Edexcel History KS5 programme of study. This involves four units that range in depth and breadth, alongside covering a range of time periods. Units include, Communist States in the Twentieth Century and the Tudors.
