BURSARY INFORMATION & ScholArship Programme

THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

Who can apply for a Governors’ Scholarship?

Students from St John Bosco College and other schools are able to apply for a scholarship supported by the Governors or members of the SJBC Foundation. Students making good progress at SJBC will be invited to join the programme at an early stage. This will enable them to access activities such as conferences and seminars during Year 11.

Being an SJBC Scholar

Scholars will be expected to be:

Outstanding ambassadors for the Sixth Form.

Provide mentoring and leadership to younger students in the school as part of their community engagement

Take part in specific Scholarship Events such as the annual Scholars Reception as well as speak at the annual Awards Evening.

Benefits of the Programme

Trips and Events may include:

Visits to Oxford and Cambridge Universities, including our partner colleges

Conferences focusing on applications to top universities

Black and Minority Ethnic conferences on applying to university

Speaker events at the school

Parents’ events

Prestigious addition to a UCAS application

THE GOVERNORS’ AWARD

Scholars will be awarded a bursary of £400 which will be paid in December of Year 12. This award requires a minimum point score of 52 points (equivalent to seven or more A/A* grades / 9 or 8 grades (English and Maths) at GCSE.

THE FOUNDATION AWARD

Scholars will be awarded a bursary of £300 which will be paid in December of Year 12.This award requires a minimum point score of 50 points (equivalent to 5 or more A/A* grades / 9 or 8 grades (English and Maths) at GCSE.

ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility for the Scholarship Programme depends upon students’ point scores from their GCSE grades.
